Antivirus Software
Background:
The University of Oregon maintains a site-license for antivirus software. Current students, faculty and staff can legally run our site-licensed software both at home and at work. Our current offering is McAfee Enterprise Antivirus with Antispyware module. This is a corporate or enterprise edition which does not expire. For this reason, we recommend users uninstall any retail antivirus software (which expires), then install our site-licensed McAfee. Note that it is not safe to run more than one antivirus program on the same computer. The "on-access" or "auto-protect" features of antivirus products conflict if more than one is present.
- Download our Site Licensed McAfee Now (UO Recommended Version).
Our installer will prompt you to have this software be managed or unmanaged. The managed version includes automatic program updates and is recommended. If you choose unmanaged, then program updates and patches can be downloaded directly from McAfee with our grant number. To download software directly from McAfee, request our grant number.
By clicking on the "request our grant number link," the grant number and instructions for use will be emailed to your UO DuckID address.
- McAfee VirusScan is the university's
recommended antivirus and anti-spyware software solution
for Mac OS X, XP/Vista.
A version for Windows 7 will be available on or before Windows 7 ship date.
